“In recent years, we’re seeing a lot of interesting, powerful female protagonist characters, and, if a movie doesn’t have some sort of modern ideas, it seems a bit antiquated, or a bit of a dinosaur,” Mitchell agrees. Maybe once upon a time, a genre movie such as this would paint Amy as a straightforward damsel in distress, but much of the tension in Girl at the Window comes from the kid’s proactive approach to stopping a killer, whether she knows who it is or not. “My character’s sort of the voice of doubt, I guess, as this girl’s struggling to figure out whether she’s clear about what she thinks she’s seeing, in a kind of Hitchcock Rear Window kinda way,” Mitchell tells The West Australian.
